September marks National Rice Month. This month we celebrate our U.S. rice farmers and their devotion to growing a nutritious, sustainable food that is available year-round and can be found at your local Jewel-Osco. Rice is grown throughout the U.S. in Arkansas, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri and Texas. This mighty grain provides more than 15 essential vitamins and minerals, including B vitamins, potassium, magnesium, iron and fiber (brown). Whole grains, like brown rice, may help reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, certain cancers and weight maintenance. Step up your U.S. rice intake with the helpful tips below:
• Make your dishes more colorful with U.S. rice. Brown, wild, black, red and purple rice are 100% whole grain varieties. Try mixing different rice together in your favorite dish for more complex flavor and texture. This is a great way to encourage kids to eat more whole grains.

• Cook a double batch of rice and keep it on hand for a quick start to your next meal. Brown rice is a great base for a burrito bowl, salad, or even soup. Cooked rice can be stored in the refrigerator in a tightly covered container for 3 to 5 days or frozen for up to 6 months.

• Pair rice with other nutrient dense foods. Rice pairs perfectly with other energy-boosting foods such as vegetables, fruit, lean proteins, and legumes. When eaten together, rice and beans provide all essential amino acids and deliver complete high-quality plant-based protein. Southwest Brown Rice and Black Bean Salad

1/3 cup oil and vinegar dressing
½ teaspoon cumin, ground
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper, ground
4 cups Signature Select Long Grain Whole Grain Brown Rice (cooked according to package)
1 (15-ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed
(1½ cups cooked black beans)
1 small red bell pepper, diced
1/3 cup green onions, sliced
2 tablespoons cilantro or parsley, chopped
2 tablespoons lime wedges (optional)

In a large bowl, combine dressing, cumin, salt,
and pepper; mix well. Stir in rice, black beans, red
pepper, green onions, and cilantro; mix well. If
desired, serve with lime wedges.

Makes 8 (¾-cup) servings.

Each serving provides
180 calories, 4 g protein, 6 g fat, 29 g carbohydrate, 4 g dietary fiber, 0 mg cholesterol and 170 mg sodium

    I will like to know from where Signature brand brown rice is coming from. I read that this brand of rice has moderate concern for arsenic content.
