When you stop and think about what makes you happy, have you ever considered how food choices contribute to your happiness? Emerging research suggests eating more fruit and veggies can help improve happiness, life satisfaction and emotional wellbeing.1 In fact, those who eat fruit and vegetables every day of the week are more likely to report being happy and satisfied with their lives.2 In one study, those who ate fruit and veggies 6-7 days a week reported pride in their choices, feeling good in daily activities and being confident about their future health.2

This is the reason we encourage you to dip Lil Snappers® apples with abandon in our Sliced Apples with a Greek Yogurt Walnut Caramel Dip recipe. Pairing with other nutrient-dense foods can be an effective way to work towards the goal of eating fruit and vegetables at least one more day each week and increasing happiness. Because different food groups contain different sets of nutrients, you also benefit from optimized nutrition. Combining produce with other nutrient-dense foods – like Lil Snappers® with California Walnuts in the recipe — may get children to eat more of these nutritious foods. Walnuts are also certified as heart-healthy by the American Heart Association – doesn’t that put a smile on your face?

To create perfect produce pairings, consider foods with complementary taste and nutrition. Balance sweet, salty, bitter, and sour tastes. Vary food textures and colors. Pair foods that offer different nutrients. The apples and walnuts, showcased in our recipe, both offer a satisfying crunch, and the sweetness of apples balances the earthy flavor of walnuts. Combined, they provide protein, healthy fat, and fiber.

Waking up with a smile on your face may be as simple as choosing fruit and vegetables one more day each week.
